Enduring goals for Australian agriculture and supporting data themes
The NASIS outlines five high level enduring goals for Australian agriculture and data themes that support these goals. This framework was developed by the NASR through a process of domestic and international policy research, desk top review of similar international review projects, stakeholder consultation including within the ABS and the Department of Agriculture including ABARES and through the public submissions process (refer to Figure 2).

The NASR's first phase of consultation specifically sought feedback on the enduring goals and supporting data themes for the NASIS. The NASIS stakeholder community was overwhelmingly supportive of this framework for the NASIS. Feedback from this submission process confirmed that the enduring goals and data themes proposed were largely reflective of the Australian agricultural sector.

Comments received from stakeholders were used to refine and align data themes under the enduring goals. The enduring goals and data themes element of the NASIS have had minimal modification from that which was originally published in: Discussion Paper: Submission Process for the National Agricultural Statistics Review, 2013-14 (cat. no. 7105.0.55.002).
